Clean cuts at Schorem
Because they considered regular hairsalons to be an assault on their manhood – losing their cool in covered up in pink plastic capes, surrounded by women with huge amounts of tin foil in their hair, nagging mothers and girlfriends on their side – the men from Schorem (‘scum’) decided to open a traditional barbershop in Rotterdam; men only – no women allowed.

Schorem offers the modern man a retreat from a world ‘overflowing with women’s hairsalons, sauna’s, beauticians, shoe stores, nailsalons’. In the Art Deco interior, dressed in sharp uniforms, the barbers create ditto hairstyles by combining modern and traditional hairdressing- and grooming techniques.
Although wet shaving with an open razor has become a disappearing art due to the immense popularity of the shaving articles that are easy to use at home, Schorem and several other traditional barbers claim it actually gives better results – the skin is smoother, cleaner and will irritate less. Until you learn how to use such a razor at home – saving thousands of euro’s worth of disposable razors – the boys from Schorem will be happy to help you in their shop.
