Erika M. Anderson is the full name of EMA, a new solo artist, who’s album Past Life Martyred Saints releases today. Together with her partner she formed the band Gowns until last year. Gowns was known for its psychical folk music.
In this solo project EMA follows the same direction. The music is melancholic, with lyrics that describe the dark side of life brought to your ears with a romantic sound. When you hear the sweet tunes you’re least expecting evil and that’s what makes it so powerful. There are songs on the album with a bit more drums and less dramatic lyrics, like Milkman, which is good for the variety on the album.
EMA has more talents than only singing; when she was in college she created videos which are shown on her website. Today is the official release date of her new album and she will be performing tonight at London Calling in Paradiso.
