Songwriter, vocalist, percussionist and ukelele player Merrill Garbus started her music project tUnE-yArDs in 2006. In her songs, Garbus merges elements of acoustic folk, R&B, funk and rock into an unconforming mix of sounds.
After releasing her debut album BiRd-BrAiNs on recycled cassette tape in 2009, Garbus has put out her second album called w h o k i l l last month. While BiRd-BrAiNs was recorded on a handheld voice recorder, w h o k i l l was mostly made in traditional studios. Garbus has clearly made some progression! Don’t be put off by the slightly annoying stylization of the name, and check out tUnE-yArDs’ Bizniss above. If you’re up for it, Garbus will be performing at Paradiso on June 6.
