Broken Bells \ Meyrin Fields EP
Last year, The Shins’ James Mercer and Brian Burton a.k.a. Danger Mouse formed Broken Bells and delivered what became one of our favorite records of 2010. Their self-titled album contains one great song after another, with The High Road, The Ghost Inside and Vaporize being the catchiest. This month, Broken Bells have released an EP containing four songs that didn’t fit the album but needed to see the light of day anyway.
We were excited to hear some fresh material at first, but felt slightly disappointed after finding out the upbeat Broken Bells sound isn’t exactly present on the Meyrin Fields EP. The four songs were meant as an ‘epilogue’ to the original album, but leaves a much more bitter taste than we expected in the first place. Nevertheless, since practically anything that comes out of the talented hands of Mercer and Burton is worth a listen, we advice you to check it out and see for yourself.
