Really? Yes, and it is from the Spring/Summer 2013 Hermès menswear collection. There has been quite some uproar about it online when Choir Sicha from The Awl wrote about his discovery after visiting the Hermes store on Madison Avenue here in New York. It really makes you wonder what they did to the crocodile in question to make it so ridiculously priced. In an earlier interview GQ asked the creative director Véronique Nichanian if she had any problems developing any innovative materials. She answered: “Truly no. We work a lot on the precious skins. I love crocodile, I hate ostrich. I wanted to make a crocodile so soft and so I asked to do a special treatment. If you feel the garments we’ve done it feels like chiffon. We call it “crocodile chiffon” because it’s really lightweight…”

I mean putting together a t-shirt is the easiest thing, so it really makes you wonder? How did they get the crocodile chiffon? Did he spend his days at the Ritz in Paris? Daily full body massages? Did he have a happy ending? Weekly mani-pedi’s? Who buys a t-shirt for that price? Then again it’s no real new news Hermes has a croco fetish – a peacock in 2008 went for $ 150.000,-.
