Unfriended‘ is an upcoming horror film that tells the story of a certain Laura Barns, a girl that commits suicide after an embarrassing video of her party debaucheries surfaces on the internet. Plagued by cyber bullying she ends her life, but some time later she comes back to haunt her bullies and find out who put the video online. But is it Laura or someone else who’s messing with them? The entire film unfolds on the teens’ computer screens in a series of YouTube videos and Skype conversations that become increasingly intruding. When the group of bullying friends are suddenly called by the Skype account of the deceased Laura, the event that started as a joke quickly gets bloody consequences.

‘Unfriended’ inscribes itself in a fairly new genre of film that explores the dangers of living our lives more and more online instead of ‘the real world’. Much like the 2012 film ‘Disconnect‘ and ‘Men, Women & Children‘ (2014), this film questions that part of life that is increasingly becoming more dominant. One of the central themes in all of these films is cyber bullying, but while ‘Unfriended’ takes a horror approach to the phenomenon, the real-life cases are frequent and equally scary.

The film with a promising young cast will be in cinemas in April 2015.
