Based in Rome, Edoardo Tresoldi is an Italian scenographer and sculptor, but not in the traditional sense. If mental images of marble and white plaster come to your mind as a first response, get ready to be astonished. Instead of following the classical path, he works with weldmesh, constructing impossibly lifelike forms and intricate detailing out of strands of metal.

Tresoldi’s sculptures feature humans, animals and architecture and are set up at strategic locations, relating to its surroundings in a meaningful way. The work ranges from smaller statues to buildings of massive scale. His latest work includes a monumental building, set up at the coast of Italy. Erected in the scenic city of Marina di Camerota, the sculptural masterpiece was a part of Meeting del Mare 2015, a local festival celebrating all things culture. Titled “INCIPIT”, the sculpture is composed of three arches and eight columns, giving it a pedestal-like appearance. Naturally, the sculpture is shaped from wire mesh, radiating translucence and serenity. At the very top, birds of metal, in a perpetual stance of flight, are reaching for the sky.

Another work from Edoardo Tresoldi worth mentioning is “CHAINED”, a collaboration with artist Gonzalo Borondo. The outcome of this successful partnership is a mural that extends into a three dimensional realm. The piece graces the wall of University of Milano-Bicocca and depicts a man climbing over the wall, acting as a bridge from 2D to 3D.
