‘The End of Sitting’ experiments with the future of the work environment

The End of Sitting is a large spacial installation on the intersection of art, architecture and science. It’s also the starting point of a test phase that explores the possibilities in a radical change of the work environment. In fact, the entire surroundings of our society is designed for sitting. In the vision of Dutch design studio RAAAF and visual artist Barbara Visser, the chair and the table are no longer the doctrine, but instead they focus on working while standing up. In this installation the visitor is challenged to think of new positions to work, as in leaning or standing against the different modules or even lying down on them. The project came into existence in collaboration with Looiersgracht 60, a new project space in Amsterdam for contemporary art, design and architecture. During the exhibition, Visser will record on film how the audience interacts with the installation.
