Seth Armstrong evokes 50s Hollywood in his paintings
Painter Seth Armstrong was born and raised in L.A., studied at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco and returned to his roots after spending a few years in Oakland. He is mainly known for his work for Mr Porter, through a travel and literary interactive guide he created for the journal. Edward Hopper springs to mind, but also 1950s Hollywood, thanks to the beaches and countryside moments, views of buildings, voyeurism and nudity he brings to the canvas.
Armstrong’s work goes deep, not just aesthetically with his rich tones and shading, but also in the narrative as we wonder how his characters arrived in the same place together and what will happen next.
