Sculptures made by bees

Based in Bejing, Ren Ri is an artist/beekeeper. His work ‘Yuansu II’ features sculptures made by bees, of beeswax. These scultpures are housed in boxes of transparent plastic. The queen bee resides at the center of each box, while the worker bees build their structures around her. Using the method of chance, Ren rolls a die every week to determine the next position of the box and thus changing the gravity of the structure. The projects becomes unpredictable, because you’ll never know how the bees will react to the new environment. The result is a beautiful collaboration with nature with a reference to the biblical concept of creation.
