OPEN CALL: CAPRICIOUS Masculinity
‘Boys don’t cry’ they say. But why is that really? I mean boys do cry, or at least they can cry. For centuries the ideas on what is considered masculine or feminine is determined by the society we live in – organized by a set of codes and rules to abide by. The fact that many of these codes are quite arbitrary is apparent in the gradual emphasize on the ‘feminine’ things in life – making it for example ‘okay’ for men to adorn themselves – creating what we understand as the ‘Metrosexual’. So while ‘femininity’ is slowly gaining more momentum in a still overly masculine world – how has this changed the notion of ‘masculinity’?
Contemporary photography magazine Capricious is preparing for their 14th issue focusing on the topic of masculinity. Redefining the idea of ‘masculinity’ in this day and age through the world of contemporary photography. It is an open call to all photographers who want to submit work focusing on this topic. The deadline for the submissions is the 1st of April 2013. For further information please visit the submission page at Capricious.
