MAX.TAN SS15 explores infinity with geometric shapes

‘Serious but never severe, minimal but never simple, fragile but never weak.’ This is what describes the MAX.TAN design language. The Singapore based brand creates androgynous and innovative designs with a geometric style, which have resulted out of experimentation with alternative ways of tailoring and draping techniques.

His most recent SS15 womenswear collection has been inspired by the notion of infinity, exploring the continuity of a garment in the most literal way. The collection was created by experimenting with hemlines and seams, resulting in a collection of hybrid garments and accessories which are connected in remarkable ways. Although the crips and clean colours and textures used may suggest a minimalist style, the silhouettes are anything but simplistic. MAX.TAN experiments with eccentric volumes and shapes to form sculptural designs which play with the conventional proportions of the human figure.

MAX.TAN was founded in 2010 after graduating from the renowned Nanyang academy of Fine Arts in 2006. Tan has successfully translated his Asian heritage into innovative designs with abstract concepts. His designs are recognized for their geometric structures which only leave a fine line between minimalism and maximalism. Tan describes himself as a garment engineer rather than a fashion designer, his SS15 collection proves that he has the right to do so.
