Last night we were present at SPRMRKT, one of our favourite clothing stores in Amsterdam, for the launch of the Jean Paul Gaultier x Eastpak collaborative collection. The collab is part of the Eastpak Artist Studio in support of Designers Against AIDS (DAA) and is the fourth edition in this series. “I think the condom is the greatest piece of clothing ever invented,” explains legendary designer Jean Paul Gaultier. “My message to everyone is PROTECT YOURSELF. I have been involved in the fight against AIDS for many years now and will continue to do so for as long as I am needed.” The collaboration started with a single bag and has naturally grown into a complete backpack collection. The collection features three limited edition designs that combine Jean Paul Gaultier’s iconic corsetry with Eastpak’s military heritage, shown in the detailed leather lacing that is inspired by jet pilot uniforms. The main collection merges functionality and vision, interpreting Jean Paul Gaultier’s signature denim and bomber jack styles in backpack form. All of the bags features his archetypical Breton stripes on the back, with part of the sales going to DAA who raise awareness for HIV/AIDS worldwide.
