Jason Oddy, photographer and writer from London, has an interest in architecture-inspired photography. Photographs that include abandoned houses or VN headquarters designed by Oscar Niemeyer. Gallery Vassie is glad to announce a solo exhibition of Oddy where you can see these photographs yourself. As from the 20th of March until the 2nd of May 2015 at the FOTOfactory exhibition space.

Oddy has produced quite some monumental series over the last fifteen years. His photography is a bit like his surname: odd. Odd because he  finds  inspiration at places  that are often quiet or abandoned. By example deserted houses of people who passed away and places that are haunted by misery and despair. You could even call his images dehumanized. He is always focused on repetition by following lines. With this he creates proportion and rhythm in a photograph. His series ‘The Waiting Room’ captures an abandoned house. Because of the mess the house was pretty much uninhabitable. The quiet- and loneliness drives Jason to grab his slow-moving 5×4 film camera.

To help bring this point of view into sharper focus the exhibition at Gallery Vassie concentrates on two phases of Oddy’s work. For example his recent series, Concrete Spring, which is described as an architecture of liberation. This series is about Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer and his buildings in Algeria. But the strict rules about photographing their country made it hard for Jason to achieve his goal. After a lot of hard work Jason finally managed to photograph the beautiful buildings of Oscar Niemeyer. Oscar Niemeyer (who died in 2012) was a respected architect. Because of the sensual and dynamic styles of his buildings people often saw him as a sculptor instead of an actual architect. Niemeyers buildings are known as forgotten modernist masterpieces and therefore Jason wants to bring them back to life through his photographs.

Gallery Vassie is looking forward to welcome Jason Oddy.

The exhibition houses from the 20th March until the 2nd May 2015 at the FOTOfactory space, Amsterdam.
The opening of this exhibition is kindly supported by Warsteiner.
