This period in London’s history represented a time of crucial importance for capital in the decades after the war. It made a stark, ruined city into an international and vibrant capital of style, culture and fashion. The Swinging Sixties marked the birth of the superstar, the fan and the individual. Fashion and leisure were now accessible to all.

Particularly, this fascinating exhibit will present you with the (in)famous photographer trio named “The Black Trinity” made of David Bailey, Terence Donovan and Brian Duffy,  who matched sex with spontaneity in a string of shoots for publications such as Vogue and Harpers Bazaar.

The pictures of The Black Trinity revolutionised  fashion photography with stunning portraits of models, musicians and actors, which have come to shape our view of the Swinging Sixties. They were self-taught photographers, once boys boys from the poor eastern part of London. Donovan stood out with his street photography, narrative series and moving portraits of female and male models. Duffy made iconic photos of notable models and personalities as Grace Coddington, Jane Birkin, Mick Jagger and Michael Caine.

With continued their pioneering style and technique Donovan and Duffy himself against the older, then leading, photographers John French and Norman Parkinson. Ironically, even these iconic photographers of British fashion photography were in turn the pioneers of the previous decades. Foam will also present the works of Eric Swayne, whose archive was only very recently rediscovered!
