A fashion documentary following Dutch designer Marga Weimans on the way to the top and back to her roots in Suriname will premiere during the 44th edition of IFFR (International Film Festival Rotterdam) on January 23. Directed by the up-and-coming Maria Visser, the documentary follows Marga Weimans for over a year on her way to the absolute top in fashion. Weimans is a fashion designer unlike others in many senses. Her talent lies in the combination of multiple disciplines: art, fashion, architecture and technology without conforming to the existing norms in haute couture.

With this documentary, Maria Visser goes in search of the soul behind the brand Marga Weimans, an intimate portrait that shows confidence, vulnerability and purity. The audience will receive an insider view into the development of Weimans’ international fashion house. In a contemporary manner we see how her show during Amsterdam Fashion Week comes to life, but her designs go beyond the catwalk. Her first solo exhibition in the Groninger Museum in 2014 was a grand success and showed the versatility of her designs: from couture dresses to minimalist ready-to-wear pieces. The documentary is tied together with the journey Marga Weimans undertakes to find her roots in central Suriname.

The world premiere of Fashion House Marga Weimans takes place during IFF Rotterdam on January 23. The general public can witness the premiere in Rotterdam cinemas as of January 29.
