One of the world’s leading design schools will devote an entire department to the intersection of food and design, starting this September. At Design Academy Eindhoven, students will be able to pursue the ‘Food Non Food’ specialization. This is part of a shake-up of the school under new creative director Thomas Widdershoven. The department, the first of its type in the world, will be headed by “eating designer” Vogelzang, who graduated from the Design Academy in 2000 and ever since followed a design-led approach to food.

“In my field of action I am detecting a growing demand for creative minds that can focus on . . . various issues within the subject of food.” –  Marije Vogelzang.

The school hopes that graduates from the Food Non Food department will go on to work in restaurant, hotel, and event design, in the agricultural sector, or in packaging and label design.
