“What is reality?” is what multidisciplinary photographer Dennis Lier asks himself every step of his creative process. By pushing boundaries between art and fashion Dennis gives his viewers the opportunity to create their own reality by placing his subjects in a surrealistic context. Working with photography and digital art makes it difficult to distinguish what is real and what is edited, giving your mind the freedom of interpretation without any restrictions. That’s the beautiful thing about the human mind, it’s limitless. And therefore each and everyone of us experiences Lier’s work differently, we all have an incomparable imagination.

For his newest work Dennis Lier is collaborating with new brand BAO, a project by 26 promising students from the Amsterdam Fashion Institute. Their assignment was to create a contemporary fashion brand within 3 weeks of time.

BAO replaces fear of the unknown with curiosity. Inspired by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas their concept revolves around enrichment by crossing limits, bound by our imagination. Surprising us by showing that boundaries are not there where one has placed them. For their collection they stayed away from traditional clothing, the clothing is considered to be an object that can be interpreted by each in their own way. There are no restrictions to the definitions of a garment. It’s up to us to use our perceptibility of these pieces.

All of these different ways of interpretation have resulted in an extraordinary affair with no-boundaries fashion photographer Dennis Lier. “Borders are usually created by fear, put something in a common / labeled box and it is safe again. What therefore means, that if you want to overcome your fears, you’ll have to discard your limits. Only then you can enrich yourself and grow as a human being.”
