Actress Dakota Johnson – who will play the role of Anastasia Steele in the upcoming film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey – is seen in another film about sex and love. Titled ‘In a Relationship’, it’s a nineteen minute short film that takes a look into the private lives of two couples. Directed by Sam Boyd, it explores two relationship phases: the early stages of a romance vs. two lovers stuck in a rut – shot in a mockumentary style. Featuring other high-profile actors (Nicholas Braun, and Peter Gallagher), this so-called mockumentary is an impressively accurate representation of two kinds of relationships—the casual fling/hook-up that has the potential to turn into more and the five-year relationship that is slowly becoming stale.

Inspired by Woody Allen’s ‘Husbands and Wives’ and a frustration with the lack of depth in contemporary romantic comedies, the director set out to create a film that is an honest depiction of young love today: “I thought it was funny that romantic comedies were always about these made-up problems. ‘I met the perfect guy but, oh no, it turns out he’s a ghost! How is this ever going to work?’ The idea with In a Relationship was to dig deep into the things that really hinder romantic happiness,” Boyd said to Vogue.com. Watch it after the break.
