Computational architecture by Michael Hansmeyer

Swiss architect and programmer Michael Hansmeyer creates the most impressive sculptures. He explores the use of algorithms and computation as a generative design tool, and merges them with existing design processes to produce new architectural shapes and structures.

The Zurich-based mastermind doesn’t just create these groundbreaking designs while staring at a computer screen; Hansmeyer actually fabricates his life-size prototypes out of cardboard. Since we can’t tell which image features a handmade prototype or a computer rendering, it’s safe to say Hansmeyer does a pretty good job. View more of his pieces after the jump.
