Brussels-based band BRNS, responsible for one of our favourite albums of 2014 (Patine), have released the music video for their third single ‘Many Chances’. The band has made a habit of matching their songs with strikingly original videos, such as the ones for ‘Void‘ and ‘My Head Is Into You‘. This new one is directed by Nicolas Fong and is a richly animated mix of childlike ingenuity and fantastical darkness, mirroring a Glass Animals resembling depth of sound. BRNS manages to channel alt-J at their most menacing and Wild Beasts at their poppiest with an intriguing medley of airy guitars, bells and weightless vocals. Watch the video below.

Timothée Philippe – drums and lead vocals – explains the video’s conception:

“With BRNS, we always try to work with local talent and people with a clear identity and vision that comes through in their work. We like to hand over the reins and let the artist do his thing. With “Many Chances the process was business as usual. I’d worked at a local art compound called the Dansaert Center in Brussels and met a crew of guys working in animation, Nicolas Fong was on of them. We would have lunch and talk design, animation. A while later, i was at a film festival in Paris and saw Nicolas’s first video clip which i immediately loved but didn’t make the connection. When we were brainstorming ideas, his name came up and it made sense to hand it over. We all loved the fluidity, organic and psychedelic element in his work.”

Nicolas Fong, the director of ‘Many Chances’, added:

“The clip for “Many Chances” was obviously conceived and inspired by the music. It became clear to me that i needed to come up with something very progressive, a transformation BUT with the paradox of it never actually going anywhere. The lyrics deal with the thought that our acts are meaningless, pointless. The video attempts to echo that casualness, the constant internal struggle and vanity of a personal quest. It’s about fighting your inner dark demons.”
