BASE range

I guess it could have been the older and more mature sister of American Apparel: BASE range is a collection of under- and easy wear. Comfortable, clean and simple are the key words. The line, founded by Marie-Louise Mogensen a few years ago, was baptized BASE range in 2012. The brand manager of top brand Surface to Air, Blandine Legait, teamed up with her to further develop the business side.

We caught up with Marie-Louise and she unfolded her vision on the brand: “We begin each collection with a feeling, a tension, a story. Either within society or in our own life that we try to translate into a basic look. We always try to push each textile that we use to be produced in a more thoughtful and sustainable way than today’s norm. Almost all our dyes are 100 % organic and our fires like cotton and bamboo are too.”

The AW12 collection can be described as smooth and pure. Marie-Louise: “This collection was very much inspired by the way the world order seems to be changing these days. East and West – and how modern translates in the mix of it. The West have for such a long time almost made a direct parallel to modern life and how we live in the West. Today we see societies that mixes – religion, state, liberalism, socialism in a different way but still very modern- if not more. The collection is all about enjoying and having a positive outlook to the new ways we organize ourselves within this world, within the same elements.” Her own personal favorites of the AW12 collection are the nude sweat pants and sweatshirt pictured above: “because it can be both old lady or a young woman style.”

The AW12 collection of BASE range will be available on La Garconne.
