ArtEZ: FASHION FOREVER

MOBA, the fashion bi-annual in Arnhem, has opened last week with fashion shows by the students of the fashion department at ArtEZ. On 6-7 June, the audience was treated to a catwalk show containing 30 spectacular graduation collections.

The presentation of ArtEZ Fashion Design took place in an old industrial hall which was converted to an exciting show location for the occasion. The complete fashion department presented itself, from the Master graduates to the first three years and the graduates of the Fashion Design Bachelor.

The theme for the first year students was ‘Airborne’, which resulted in many spatial designs, in sheer fabric clearly inspired by parachutes and wingsuits. The second year students had to design around the theme ‘Auto-Obsession’ whereas the third year were commissioned to reveal how much they loved themselves (and fashion) with the theme ‘I Love Me’.

The pinnacle of the show was, of course, the Master graduate students of ArtEZ. They presented their completely self-designed collections and visions, with a wide variety of colours and silhouettes. Some very creative, others modest and with lots of attention to detail. A few of the designs are included below. (Photos by Peter Stigter)

For over 60 years, the fashion department of ArtEZ has produced successful fashion designers. Prominent names of the industry have studied there, such as Viktor & Rolf, Lidewij Edelkoort, Peet Dullaert, the People of the Labyrinths, Lucas Ossendrijver (Lanvin), Jan Taminiau, Iris van Herpen, and Monique van Heist.

This year’s edition of MOBA is centered around fetishism in fashion and is curated by trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort. The bi-annual can be visited until 21st July in Arnhem.
