Ana Kras

ana kras 3 We have been intrigued by the work of multidisciplinary artist Ana Kraš for a while now. A few months ago we wrote a post about her work, but we wanted to know more. All she says on her website is: ‘ANA KRAŠ was born in Belgrade, Serbia, in July of 1984.
Ana works on different personal and commissioned projects.
Don’t hesitate to get in touch.’ So that’s what we did; we got in touch and asked her about her schedule this week and more personal stuff.

What are you up to this week?
‘This week I’m staying in Belgrade, my birthplace, after I’ve been in Los Angeles for three months. In a couple of days I’m packing my stuff to go back to LA again, so actually this week is a little room in between. Both emotionally and practically this is a very busy and energy consuming week for me, as I am trying to see all my dears and do as many things before I go. One of my closest friends, Jovana, is just about to give birth to her first child and I am spending the last pregnant minutes with her. My father is coming from Montenegro to see me tomorrow. Besides that I have a bunch of work to do; shooting a turbo folk singer for Vice magazine, drawings for a fashion brand, making some more hive lamps and lamps for the Margiela hotel in Paris and some other things. As you can imagine it’s a very stressful time and hard to focus sometimes.’

Do you follow any blogs in your fields of interest?
‘Honestly, it might sound strange, but I don’t follow any blog. I have no patience and I tend to lose my attention. Besides, I cannot stand too many images, I’m not into fashion and all the other things blogs are mainly about. Currently I’m working on a project with my dear Sylvain on a blog called Ping Pong. If he posts an image I respond with mine. Though I do love Twitter, I love to read what my friends write.’

Which artists do you look up to or do you find very interesting?
‘There are so many people whose work I really love, and possibly look up to, but that is always hard to tell. If I have to pick one, then my very favorite artist and person is Devendra Banhart, not only because I think his music is beautiful, but he is also my boyfriend and my friend, and I love everything he is and does. Other people I admire and love are Michelangelo Antonioni, Werner Herzog, Elliott Smith, Leonard Cohen, Konstantin Grcic, Simon Diaz, Gerard Richter, Milos Lolic, Marija Strajnic, Katarina Soskic, Jovan Mikonjic, Paja Jovanovic, Dusan Strajnic and many many many more.’

Where do you see yourself in five years?
‘I see myself with my love and our kids.’

Can you send us a private picture with a story behind it?
‘Here are two pictures that are very dear to me. The first is a picture of my love helping me to untangle cotton strings for a bonbon lamp I was making. The second photo is my friend Jovana, who is about to give birth to her first son.’
